The marketing goon says "the highway one line was introduced in 2000, and since then, it has been wildly successful" gee, I wonder why. This promotional video came out when Fender "improved" the highway 1 line. I also have the v2 strat-same story- frets are like railroad spikes and the pickups were dull (changed those things- now it's awesome) Duhhh Fender.

The company no longer produces Highway 1 guitars. The line was very successful through the 2000s, but Fender messed with the original design so much, they became unpopular and sales drastically dropped.

I am learning how to level frets and re-crown and polish and I plan on doing this to the frets soon, I just need some more practice. I need to be able to feel the wood under my fingertips when I play.

Regardless, the frets and nut are a mile high and it is not fun to play at all. The pots are Gibson 500k that I left in from the previous owner, so there is that extra dimension of highs. It sounds very very clean and powerfull with lots of character. and, what is this?- A 22nd fret? I have changed the pickups to American standard in bridge and neck. When I bought it, someone had installed a Seymour Duncan small bridge humbucker that had a split coil toggle switch and the very dark and muddy hwy 1 single coil in the neck. I somehow decided on a used hunk of junk hwy 1 tele-version 2 that I would change the pickups on. I was a college student at that point, so I could not afford to buy, otherwise I would have snagged it.įast forward to 2009, I had sold my mij 72 custom reissue (needed a lot of work) and wanted more of a traditional tele. The frets were a very comfortable size (smallish-good for chords and single note bends, etc.). I remember playing a pre-"upgrade" hwy 1 tele in a shop in Weymouth, MA that had a superb neck and very nice pickups back in 2003.
